Episode 59 — Michael McCarthy
This text will be replaced
February 19 — Michael McCarthy, Clinical Director of Artificial Pancrease Treatment Centers in Newport Beach, California.
In this show we examine the nature and extent of the health crisis of Diabetes, the collateral damage done by the disease, and precisely what it is that is not working right in the bodies of diabetics. McCarthy, gives us a survey of the disease and its effects, and then a survey of various treatment regimens, including the artificial pancreas. This treatment may be compared to dialysis for kidney disease sufferers, only, in this case, the affected organ is the pancreas.
McCarthy helps us understand how a malfunctioning pancreas fails to signal the liver to do its job of supplying energy to the body’s cells, and how the artificial pancreas supplies those signals in therapeutic doses at therapeutic intervals such that the liver begins to service the cells of the body again, these cells return to their normative level of function, and health returns.
Diabetes is so prevalent a disease that nearly everyone is affected or has a friend or relative with the disease. Therefore, this show is a very personal matter.

This text will be replaced

February 5 — Dr. Jabbour comes from Lebanon and lived with his family in Egypt with the Christina discipling organization, The Navigators for fifteen years before coming to Colorado in January 1991. In April 2011 he was appointed by the International Leadership of The Navigators as an
Ambassador at Large. Since 1997 he and his family have been US citizens.
Although he comes from a Christian background, as he studied for a doctorate in Islamics with a focus on Islamic Fundamentalism, he learned to stand in the shoes of Muslims and to see the world through their eyes. He has authored three books in Arabic, and four in His latest book is
The Crescent Through the Eyes of The Cross on the Muslims' worldview. This is what we will be discussing today.
In this fascinating interview, Dr. Jabbour takes us through some of the material found in his book,
The Crescent Through the Eyes of The Cross, helping us to understand the wide variety of types of Muslims we may encounter or read about. We will see that not all Muslims are the same, and that Americans need only feel threatened by a marginal fraction of Muslims, those who are radicalized militant Fundamentalists.

Episode 57 — Alex Wurmbrand
This text will be replaced

January 29 — Alex Wurmbrand is the grandson of Richard Wurmbrand – the Romanian pastor, author and founder of Voice of the Martyrs. Alex has been a volunteer representative with the organization since 2011 and is honored to speak on behalf of the global persecuted church. Alex is a professional violinist, teacher, and composer in Los Angeles. He holds degrees in music from UC Santa Cruz and the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. Currently, he is enrolled in the Music Business Program at the Musician's Institute in Hollywood, Ca. Outside of music, Alex enjoys being outdoors skateboarding, surfing, yoga, and running.
Alex comes to us on this program as the grandson of Richard Wurmbrand, who was voted the fifth greatest Romanian … ever. Richard was a Jewish believer in Jesus who was imprisoned and tortured for 14 years under the Communists in Romania, including three years in absolute solitary confinement under conditions hard to imagine. His wife Sabine was consigned to slave labor, but was released after three years, never knowing if Richard was alive or not, and if so, when he would be released. He was eventually ransomed out of captivity, and they came to the west where they founded what is now known as "Voice of the Martyrs," an organization that keeps before the eyes of the Church the plight of Christians being tortured for their faith in various countries of the world.
Today we will hear about his grandfather and grandmother, two Jews rightly termed saints by those who knew them. We will also hear about those who are suffering around the world for their faith, and what we need to do that their suffering might not be in vain.

Episode 54 — Jahan Jomehri
This text will be replaced
January 8 — Jahan Jomehri (John Joe-MEH-ri), together with his brother, is owner of Lovebirds Café and Bakery in Pasadena, California, with other locations elsewhere in the Los Angeles area. He came to America at the age of 14, speaking no English, his mother thousands of miles away in Iran, and his father, dead at 44 of a heart ailment. This is an immigrant story of hard knocks, of hard work, and of a soft heart.
America is a nation of immigrants, and this story tells a story of riches, to rags, to riches again. This is a true human interest story, and one that will challenge our fears and assumptions about Muslims, especially Muslims from Iran.
We will also learn how people who work their way up through a difficult life often become a blessing to others.
The Jewish writer Elie Wiesel wrote that God created people because he loves stories. This episode of Shalom Talk will help you understand the wisdom of that statement

Episode 50 — Rabbi Russ Resnik
This text will be replaced

November 20 — Rabbi Russ Resnik is the Executive Director of the Union of Messianic Jewish Congregations, responsible for oversight of 81 congregations worldwide. In addition, he is a mental health worker and author of a number of books including
Divine Reversal: The Transforming Ethics of Jesus. He and his wife Jane live in Albuquerque, New Mexico where he can often be seen doing some serious bicycling, uniform and all.
If Messianic Judaism is to have any impact, it will have to go beyond peddling an ideology. The leaders and members of this movement need to exhibit lives transformed after the image of Yeshua of Nazareth. But how is such transformation to occur? Russ outlines the great value of the Jewish disciplines of Mussar, an approach to ethical and relational renewal advanced by 19th century Rabbi Israel Lipkin of Salant. This is an approach gaining new adherents in the 21st century, and well worth our study and participation.
We also discuss the multilayered nature of ethical choices, discussin the teaching and example of Pastor Dietrich Bonnhoeffer, whose discipleship under Yeshua ended in a Nazi noose, where he was executed for participation in a plot to assassinate Adolph Hitler.
This is a thought provoking episode, not offering pat answers, but highlighting areas of exploration.
